Best Western Hotel La Solara - Sorrento

Sustainability

The property has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at improving resource management and monitoring certain environmental and social aspects of its operations. The main actions currently in place are listed below.

  • Guest rooms are equipped with electronic key cards to optimize energy consumption
  • The hotel uses energy-efficient light bulbs and lighting systems with motion and dusk sensors.
  • Guests find a guide in their room with tips for saving energy during their stay (e.g., TV and charger usage, towel changes, temperature regulation).
  • Guests can request an external bicycle rental service and purchase public transportation tickets directly at the reception desk
  • Through BWH Hotels Italy & South-East Europe, the property purchases Guarantees of Origin covering at least 30% of its electricity consumption.
  • The property provides two electric vehicle charging stations, available free of charge to resident guests.
  • The restaurant is progressively expanding its selection of vegetarian dishes.
  • The installation of a photovoltaic system for electricity generation is currently under evaluation.
  • Installation of flow reducers on guest room taps to optimize water consumption.
  • Introduction of xerophytic plants in green areas to reduce water consumption.
  • Separate collection of waste and used batteries.
  • Use of detergents with an eco-label certification
  • The property encourages more responsible procurement practices among its suppliers, giving preference, where possible, to recycled, recyclable or reduced-material packaging.
  • Reduction of food waste through careful order management and an à la carte restaurant service, with buffet available only at breakfast.
  • The property supports the involvement of local suppliers and service providers and encourages guests to discover the area’s cultural, natural and food-and-wine heritage.
  • Training programmes are provided for employees, particularly new hires, with incentives and career advancement opportunities available to those who demonstrate professional competence and exemplary conduct.
  • The property adopts policies regarding respect for human rights, prevention of discrimination and protection of minors. Staff members are periodically informed and trained on these topics through awareness-raising and educational activities.

Results achieved

In 2025, comparing data from the previous year, we achieved positive results, particularly with regard to:

Reduction in the quantity of waste of all types and related greenhouse gas emissions by a total of 1,155.00 kg and 3,356.70 kg of CO2, respectively.

Furthermore, for a total of 26,416 guests, we reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 0.09 kg CO2 per person and by 0.07 kg CO2 per person per m2.

We consumed 325 kg less solid detergent.

We consumed 196 liters less liquid detergent.

Overall, greenhouse gas emissions from solid waste decreased by 3,242.91 kg CO2.

We purchased 189 kg less meat and 193 kg less fish.

We reduced greenhouse gas emissions from composted waste by 2.56 kg CO2 and from landfill waste by 153.59 kg CO2.

We also reduced energy greenhouse gas emissions by 3,242.91 kg CO2.

Goals for the future

One of our future objectives is to reduce the hotel’s environmental impact by lowering CO₂ and greenhouse gas emissions. This will be achieved through more efficient water and energy use, including the installation of next-generation boilers that recover condensate from the air-conditioning system. This recovered water will be repurposed for sanitary facilities via heat exchangers—a highly energy- and water-efficient solution that reduces the load on primary heat generators and drastically cuts the consumption of potable water for sanitary purposes.

In this same vein, we will install sub-meters for electricity in every department of the hotel, allowing for the rationalization and constant monitoring of energy consumption, as well as the identification of any irregularities or waste.

Furthermore, we remain committed to supporting the scholarship program for the children of employees in the hospitality sector. We will continue this support by renewing our annual membership with Federalberghi Penisola Sorrentina (the Sorrento Peninsula Hotel Association) and working through the *Ente Bilaterale*—a joint body representing both employers and trade unions. Additionally, we will continue to promote local products by connecting fellow member properties with local suppliers through an affiliated consortium.
